Wiley is pleased to announce that starting January 2022, Dr. Anton Sculean will be the Editor-in-Chief of Periodontology 2000. Dr. Jørgen Slots and Dr. Anton Sculean will work as Co-Editors for the remainder of 2021 until Dr. Slots’ retirement in December 2021.
For over 12 years, Dr. Sculean has served as Chairman of the Department of Periodontology, School of Medicine, University of Bern, Switzerland. He has been responsible for not only clinical research, but research performed in the Oral Microbiology, Oral Cell Biology, and Oral Histology laboratories. For the last 25 years, he has been deeply involved in projects relating to periodontal and peri-implant wound healing/regeneration and developing various novel modalities to control and treat periodontal and peri-implant infections.
He has served in many international organizations, including his current position as President of the International Academy of Periodontology (IAP) and recent past positions as President of the European Federation of Periodontology (EFP), President of the Swiss Society of Periodontology (SSP), and President of the Periodontal Research Group (PRG) of the International Association of Dental Research (IADR). He has been a recipient of many research awards, among others the Distinguished Scientist Award of the IADR, the Anthony Rizzo Young Investigator Award of the PRG/IADR, and the IADR/PRG Award in Regenerative Periodontal Medicine.
He has an extensive publication list and involvement in journal editorial boards. He has published more than 300 original research papers and 83 peer-reviewed review papers. He has served as Editor-in-Chief of Oral Health and Preventive Dentistry, Section Editor of Periodontology for Clinical Oral Investigations and BMC Oral Health, and Associate Editor of Quintessence International. In addition, he has served on the editorial boards of top dental research journals, including Journal of Clinical Periodontology, Journal of Dental Research, Journal of Periodontal Research, and Clinical Oral Implants Research.
