General

The Hungarian Dental Association held its traditional international conference in Szeged in the spring of 2024.

Our participants came from several countries in Europe and the world, but this time again the Hungarian audience was the most represented. This time we had more than a thousand visitors.

 

 

This year we innovated in the exhibition space: 36 exhibitions from 43 companies were now placed in one large area, in the atrium of the congress centre. Visiting the companies, seeing and trying out their products served the needs of professionals and students alike.  This year, our sponsors offered more than 28 gift packages, services and trainings to conference attendees, which were awarded to the winners after a draw.

 

In addition to the excellent networking and self-development opportunities provided by the exhibitors, conference participants were also able to view the opening of an exhibition of paintings by our professor from Szeged.

 

 

Thursday

- On the first day of the professional programme, 27 April 2024, for the second time, our programme included a full day of training for dental assistants and dental hygienists, with a packed hall for the theoretical and practical part of the second dental hygienist symposium.

 

 

Some 200 colleagues registered for Thursday's programme to hear from three international and one Hungarian speaker on the specificities of the emerging profession in Hungary. As part of the one-day programme for assistants, 50 participants also had the opportunity to expand their skills in practical, hands-on training. We had a special Ugandan delegation attend this day as well.

 

On the afternoon of 27 April, 25 dentists also participated in hands-on training: Professor Sculean from Switzerland helped them to learn the Bernese concept of treating soft tissue defects in teeth and implants.

 

 

Friday

On Friday, at the opening of the conference, the Bulgarian Dental Association was represented by the President-elect of the FDI, the World Dental Federation, Prof. Dr. Nikolai Sharkov. On behelf of the University of Szeged Prof. Gábor Szabó, and on behalf of dental training in Szeged, Dr. Zoltán Baráth, Dean of the Szeged Faculty welcomed the participants.

 

The programme of Friday included several events of the Hungarian Dental Association:

- the HDA awarded Prof. István Gera the title of Honorary Lifetime President

- The association presented the Körmöczi Award of the Hungarian Journal of Dentistry

- HDA and the Ugandan Dental Association signed a cooperation agreement, more about which you can read in our upcoming article.

- and the HDA held its 2024 General Assembly, where the new President and board of the Association were elected.

 

And last but not least, Friday evening was the elegant gala dinner, where speakers, company representatives and attendees continued networking in a relaxed atmosphere.

 

 

Saturday

On the final day of the conference, the audience was treated to four more excellent speakers, filling the rows with spectators until the very last presentation.

On this day, there was also the opening of Prof. István Sonkodi's painting exhibition "In the land of Gandhi", which was opened by Prof. Sunita Gupta from India.
